  • 19-22 wood apple dowels (from a craft store)

  • 18-22 poly bags

  • 5 pound caramel brick

  • 5 pound chocolate brick or pieces

  • 18-20 very large, flawless Granny Smith apples

  • 1 lb slivered almonds

  • Toffee bits

Wash apples well and remove stems, let dry several hours to overnight.

Caramel: Melt caramel in microwave about 7–10 minutes. Stir every few minutes. Caramel should be very thin. Dip the apples and wipe the bottom with spoon as it drips down. Heat caramel as needed to keep thin and warm during dipping process. Set on cookie sheet sprayed with Pam. Let dry several hours to overnight.

Chocolate: Put almond pieces in shallow bowl. Melt chocolate (about half) in microwave on defrost, STOP MICROWAVE AND STIR VERY OFTEN. Dip apples in chocolate wiping bottom as it drips. Set apple in almonds and cover bottom well, set on cookie sheet sprayed with Pam. Let dry several hours to overnight.

Decorate as you wish with dark, white or colored chocolate and sprinkles. Let them dry well. Bag them and tie up with ribbon.
