Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening OR butter (Mom uses shortening)

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 1/4 cups flour

  • 1 tsp salt 

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 cup chocolate chips (Mom uses semi-sweet, Jocelyn uses milk chocolate)

  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts (Mom never does)

Directions

Preheat oven to 375˚ F.

Mix fat, sugars and vanilla. Add eggs and beat well.

Sift dry ingredients together, slowly mix in. Add chocolate chips and nuts.

Bake for 8–12 minutes.

Note

Part of the dough is always eaten while mixing, part of the cookies are eaten as they come out of the oven. You might as well make a double batch or they won’t last long.
