Cut-out Iced Cookies

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter

  • ½ cup shortening

  • ½ cup sugar

  • ½ cup powdered sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla

  • 2 ¼ cups flour

  • ½ tsp soda

  • ½ tsp cream of tartar

  • ½ tsp salt

Frosting

  • 2 ½ to 3 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 2 Tbs butter

  • Milk to moisten

  • Food coloring (opt)

Mix together frosting ingredients to desired consistency. Frost and decorate. 

Directions

Preheat oven to 375˚ F.

Cream sugars and fats until fluffy, add vanilla and egg. Sift together dry ingredients then mix. 

Roll dough, cut with cutters and bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 8–12 minutes until delicately browned. Let cool completely. 

Notes

These take forever to make with all the rolling, cutting, frosting and decorating. But they are the best cookies ever, they melt in your mouth. They are everyone’s very favorite.
