Christmas Morning Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sausage, cooked and well drained

  • 8 slices white bread

  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, grated

  • 4 eggs, well beaten

  • 3 cups milk, divided

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ¾ tsp dry mustard

  • 1 (10 ¾ oz) can cream of mushroom soup

Directions

Preheat oven to 300˚ F.

Butter 9x13” pan. Remove crusts from bread, cut in cubes and spread in pan. Sprinkle sausage, then cheese over bread.  Beat eggs, 2 c milk, salt and dry mustard together. 

Pour egg mixture on top of ingredients in pan. Refrigerate covered overnight. 

In the morning, mix soup and remaining milk, pour on top. 

Bake 1 ½ hours uncovered.

Our traditional Christmas morning breakfast, perfectly fitting between gifts and stockings for our hungry bellies. This must be served with orange juice and egg nog.
