King Crab Legs

Ingredients

  • 6 king crab legs, thawed

  • Water for steaming

  • ⅓ clarified unsalted butter or Ghee, melted

  • 1 lemon in wedges

  • Large stock pot

  • Steamer basket/tray

  • Tools of destruction

Possible additions

  • 1-2 lemons, quartered

  • 2 Tbs Old Bay

  • 1 bunch tarragon

  • 1 (12 oz) beer or apple cider

Directions

Add a steamer basket to the pot. Add enough water to the pot so the steamer basket will not be covered by water when you put it into the pot.

Add any seasoning you want to the water, it will only lightly affect the flavor. See above.

Rinse crab legs off, cut at joints to make smaller if needed. Add legs to the pot and cover and turn on the heat.

Steam for 8 to 10 minutes or until crab legs are heated through. The crab in the US is already cooked and flash frozen, so all you need to do is reheat them.

Use tools of destruction or cut shells with scissors to remove the meat inside.

Serve with lemon and melted butter and enjoy.

Note

Seasonings to add to butter

  • Herb: Add 1 Tbs chopped fresh herb (chives, oregano, tarragon, or thyme) and 1 tsp lemon juice.

  • Garlic: ½ tsp paprika, ⅛ tsp pepper and 2 finely chopped garlic cloves

  • Lemon: add 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 1 tsp fresh chopped chives, and ½ tsp lemon zest.
